Personal Formation Goals

By personal formation, we refer to the entire education that you receive at Whitesands School. The academic programme, extra and co-curricular activities, advisory system, spiritual means of formation, and even the facilities all contribute to your formation as a person with intellect and will.

Everything done in Whitesands is done for the sake of the total personal development of the students.

To understand personal formation more specifically, distinguish it from academic or intellectual formation. In this context, it refers to the efforts of specific agents to shape you so that you pursue wisdom and virtue. Wisdom refers to the knowledge that a person must have to be happy in this life and the next. By virtue, we mean the habits that make a person good.

The personal formation programme consists of means of formation over and above the academic programme that aim for your integral development. These means of formation endeavour to lead you to a greater self-knowledge to prepare you for life here and hereafter. The programme consists of deliberate and systematic programme of character formation that is founded on the academic programme, which is considered as the primary venue for forming character

  • Directed to all students in a personalised manner
  • Permeated by a Catholic ethos and the lay spirituality of Opus Dei
  • Carried out through the collaboration of the parents (who are helped to become first and foremost parents) and the school staff (who are constantly trained to become agents of formation)
