The parents, staff and students of Whitesands School receive spiritual attention from a priest of the Catholic Prelature, Opus Dei, to which the spiritual, moral and doctrinal formation given in the school is entrusted. The school has established an agreement with Opus Dei by which its priests, always in their personal capacity and respecting the freedom of consciences, carry out this task of formation. The activities that make us this attention are organized within the chaplaincy department of the school. Mass is celebrated in the school chapel every school day during the period allotted to it on the timetable (along with study as an alternative for those who do not wish to attend).
Catholic students who have not done so in their parishes are prepared for the reception of the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation. The priest is usually available for confession and spiritual guidance for those who wish to avail themselves of these means. Additionally, the priest (the school chaplain) gives all the students regular talks on morals. This activity is an integral part of the plan of formation for students and therefore attendance is obligatory for all students. The chaplaincy department also makes available a good number of very good spiritual reading material in the chapel.
The chapel is open between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm on all school days. Annual school events such as Foundation Day (October 2) and Graduation Ceremony for outgoing students usually include a solemn mass attended by all students and staff.
